The path
Finish the exact program your SAP prescribed, and keep the proof.
This is the longest step — and the one the Clearinghouse does not record at all. Your dashboard will look frozen while you do the work that actually gets you back. That silence is normal; it is how the system is built, not a sign your case is lost.
Only your SAP can judge whether you complied. A cheaper class, a shorter online course, or a program a friend did for a different SAP does not transfer. If money is the problem, talk to your SAP's office about the prescribed program's own payment options before you substitute anything.
Keep the completion certificate and any attendance records. Your follow-up evaluation (step 4) runs on that proof. Drivers lose weeks re-requesting paperwork they were handed once.
Get the ReturnToDuty Kit — $49
One payment of $49. No subscription. The kit is a web page you can return to and print — the full playbook for choosing a SAP, taking the test with no employer, managing the follow-up years, and getting hired again.
Education can be days to weeks; treatment can be weeks to months. Total process costs typically run $500–$1,500 on an education-only path and $1,000–$5,000 or more with treatment (published ranges, checked October 19, 2026).
Only if your SAP agrees and changes the recommendation themselves. Substituting on your own risks a 'did not comply' finding at the follow-up evaluation — the most expensive outcome in the whole process.
